Project Activities

Apart from a plenty of its experience in monitoring and evaluation, facilitation and procurement assistance work for ODA loan projects, environmental and social considerations, and economic and financial analysis, OPMAC has also been active in the area of technical cooperation projects. Implementation of the livelihood development component under Project for Sustainable Forest Management in the Northwest Watershed Area (SUSFORM-NOW) by OPMAC for a year and half is a concrete example showing how OPMAC has been actively involving with ODA technical cooperation projects.

 

SUSFORM-NOW aimed at promoting participatory forest management and livelihood development at project pilot sites in Dien Bien Province, northern Vietnam, and its implementing agencies were Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Dien Bien Province, and Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee.

OPMAC had assisted in selecting activities which were likely to be effective for contributing to livelihood development for local villagers. The activities had mainly consisted of improved cooking stoves, biogas, home garden, processing of local produces, grass plantation, contour line cultivation, fruit trees, and small-scale livestock raising.

PR activities such as issuing newsletter, creating brochures, participating in a trade fair, training activities, and creating slide / DVD were also carried out in order to promote community participation as well as introduce project activities.

In addition, the result of in-country trainings in Tochigi Prefecture, which aimed at learning by project beneficiaries from livelihood development and improvement activities in Japan, was successfully reflected into activities at the project pilot sites in Dien Bien Province.
